Full Text

The Chinese Commercial Treaty.
New York, 7.-A Washington special says of the proceedings of the executive session at which the Chinese treaties were confirmed: Strange to say, most of the opposition to the ratification of the second treaty seemed to come from those who did not desire the opium trade diminished a single pound. They did not object to accepting all the advantages accruing and to accrue to us, but they did not desire to give quid pro quo. However, after it had been thoroughly discussed, it was ratified, there being but half a dozen votes against its ratification. It is alleged that the Massachusetts senators stood together in the negative.
