WANTS REID.
In the event of the resignation or removal of D. H. McMillan, as judge of the fifth district, the Progress hopes—and New Mexico hopes—the appointment of his successor will be made from our own attorneys. We have just as good lawyers in our territory as can be found anywhere—gentlemen who are in every way competent to assume and discharge the duties devolving upon the judge of the fifth district. The mention of W. C. Reid for the place is gratifying to every one who has the good fortune to be numbered among his acquaintances, and, consequently, Mr. Reid has the unqualified endorsement of New Mexico for the position. Mr. Reid is an indefatigable worker, careful and thorough in his professional labors and just and honest in his convictions. He never equivocates. He is a gentleman of upright habits and clean morals. He is a lawyer of ability as the results of his work as assistant U. S. attorney clearly demonstrate. Mr. Reid is possessed of every qualification necessary for the appointment, and if Judge McMillan is to be removed Mr. Reid should be his successor—not alone on account of his qualifications, but because the people of the fifth district and of the entire territory want him.
As the Roswell Register says: "The territory has suffered by the actions of men appointed from the outside, and in justice to us all a judge should be selected from the territory."
Mr. Reid is eminently the man for the place.—Las Cruces Progress.
