Wayne State University's dedication of its Community Arts Center will take place in a series of programs climaxed by a final ceremony to be held at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The University will honor Detroit's 250th Anniversary Capital Gifts Committee which initiated the construction of the Center, and the Roy Fruehauf Foundation, donors of the Aeolian Skinner Organ just completed in the Community Arts Auditorium.
Making the dedication address will be Wayne State President Clarence B. Hilberry. The program, with WSU Vice President Arthur Neef presiding, will also include a presentation of the performing arts.
An organ concert will be given by E. Power Biggs, of Cambridge, Mass., celebrated soloist who has appeared in almost all the great cities of this country and Europe. A dance recital will be offered by the Wayne State University Dance Workshop, and the WSU Men's Glee Club will give a choral presentation.
Recitals by Biggs will also be given on Sunday, Oct. 30, with the WSU Symphony Orchestra, and on Monday, Oct. 31, with small instrumental groups. The October 30 program will also be highlighted by the opening of an exhibit by the Michigan Water Color Society. Both programs will begin at 8 p.m.
Free tickets for these two events will be available to students, faculty and the general public at McGregor Memorial, the music department, and the student ticket office. The final dedication program will be open to the public.
Since the opening of the Center, which spans a block bounded by West Ferry, Cass, Kirby and Second Avenue, more than a half million guests have joined together for cultural and educational programs.
