Full Text

The Temple.

In the sitting of the General Council of the Commons of the 16th, a packet was announced from the Temple, for the particular examination of which a Committee was appointed. From their report it appeared, that some letters had been written to the Queen by a woman who seemed disordered in her senses, and who dealt in Spanish Wax. This woman sent to the unfortunate Maria Antonietta some specimens of her merchandize, under the form of various hieroglyphic seals; and prays her to intercede for her in a certain process. One of these contains Arabic cyphers, of which the Council of the Temple could make nothing. These packets, addressed to the Queen, were brought to the Temple by a person unknown, and whom the Commissary on duty neglected to stop and examine. The General Council concluded to refer the examination of this affair to the Committee of General Safety.
