Massachusetts has voted on the 9th inst., in Massachusetts, to decide on the proposition made by the last Legislature providing for an amendment to the Constitution to debar the foreign born citizens from voting for two years after the completion of their naturalization. The amendment has been carried by a large majority. This obnoxious amendment is in direct hostility to the national Republican platform, and the Republicans everywhere, outside of Massachusetts, have strongly opposed the measure from the start, and will continue to do so to the end. Consequently this foolish movement on the part of the Massachusetts Republicans cannot materially affect the party in other States.

(The above we take from the "Cadiz Republican," of last week. Yes, the amendment has been carried by a large majority. Democrats opposed it in and out of the State, but they had not the numbers to defeat it. In Massachusetts the Black Republicans have everything their own way. In that State the fugitive slave can vote on one year's residence. The intelligent German, Irishman or Frenchman must stay in this country seven years before he can have the same privilege. Five years till he becomes a citizen of the United States and two years afterward. And this is boasted Black Republican "equality" in Massachusetts. But, says the Republican, this is an "obnoxious amendment," a "foolish movement," and cannot "affect Republicans in other States." How is this? Can the amendment possibly be "obnoxious" to those who have taken an oath to do all in their power to prevent foreigners from having any political privileges for twenty-one years, and to prevent them forever from being elected to office? It is a well known fact that five-sixths of the Black Republican party in this State are also Know Nothings. The order boasted 150,000 names. It may be policy for the leaders to ignore their Know-nothingism at this time. It suits their purpose now. Now, those very fellows who, a short time ago swore so stoutly to do all in their power against foreigners, pretend to be their dear friends, in order to get their votes to help put down the Democratic party, the only party that has always stood up for and defended the political rights of all white men, whether native or foreign born. But just give them full sway, and the cloven foot will stick out in Ohio as it did in Massachusetts. Can any foreigner be so silly as to believe that these 150,000 of the Republican party in this State that swore to deprive all foreigners of political privileges for 21 years, can really think a measure "obnoxious" that only deprives them of these privileges for seven. They may indeed think it "obnoxious," but if they do it is because it is not long enough to suit their views. This Massachusetts amendment will and ought to affect the Republican party everywhere. It shows what they will do where they have full sway. Every honest foreigner should shun them as he would a pestilence. Their pretended love now is all to get votes. Let their power increase, let them feel secure in their strength by the aid and assistance of our foreign born citizens, and be assured, that like the viper, they will bite the hand that nourished them. They cannot be honest in saying that they are opposed to depriving the foreigner of political privileges for two years when they swore to do it for 21. That is too shallow to catch gudgeons even. Massachusetts gives an example of full grown Black Republicanism, in its full glory, and thus it would be everywhere if it had the power.

We should like to see that part of the "national republican platform," that this Massachusetts "amendment is in direct hostility to."-- We imagine that our neighbor cannot show it, and his assertion is only made for the same purpose that his whole article is--to try to deceive the foreign born citizens of Harrison county.
