In presenting its petition to the court, the government reversed its previous stand and agreed to let the union continue its strike beyond Monday.

The injunction issued by the Pittsburgh federal court and upheld by the Philadelphia appeals court had called for the striking Steelworkers to return to the mills Monday. Now they may continue on strike at least until the Supreme Court rules.
