A major fire broke out in Smyrna on the evening of April 7, destroying 500 houses, vast merchandise, and killing many people, rivaling the damage from a recent earthquake. Event Details
A Fire broke out in Smyrna the 7th of last April, in the Evening, which has done almost as much Damage as the Earthquake (mentioned in our last). Smyrna was one of the richest and most mercantile Towns in all the Ottoman Empire; and these Two Scourges are hoped to be Forerunners of God's Vengeance against the Ottoman Empire, for the Cruelty of the Turks against Christians, and the Barbarities they have committed upon them these 3 or 4 Centuries past.
