Tuesday, February 19.
The resolution of Mr. Pukin, calling on the President for a copy of letters in French' was negatived by ayes and noes, Ayes 44, Noes 67. And then the house adjourned.
Wednesday, February 20.
Mr. Bacon offered a resolution providing for the payment, out of the contingent fund of the house, of witnesses, &c. who have attended the committees enquiring into the conduct of gen. Wilkinson. After a short debate the resolution was carried, 67 in favor.
Mr. Dawson, from the committee appointed on that part of the President's message which relates to the subject, reported a bill, authorising the President to accept of the services of volunteer companies, not exceeding 50,000. Read twice, and referred to the committee of the whole for Friday.
Mr. Gardenier obtained leave of absence till the end of the session.
The house again considered the bill for the relief of Lieut. Simeon Knight Mr. Pikin offered an amendment which was discussed two hours and carried by ayes and noes. Ayes 62. Noes 45. On the question for engrossing for a third reading to-morrow, 59 rose in favor, 29 opposed,
The bill respecting the erection of a light house on Boon Island, (Mass.)&c. was read a third time and passed.
The bill authorising the issuing of debentures in certain cases was debated. Mr. Holland moved an indefinite postponement of the bill, which motion was under discussion at 3 o'clock.
