Important trial.--This morning was commenced the trial of Professor McClintock and about thirty other persons, implicated in the riot in this place in June last, on the occasion of the rescue of three fugitive slaves, in which a citizen of Maryland unfortunately received injuries which resulted fatally.
Professor McClintock is charged with interfering in the arrest of the slaves, and the others with attempting the rescue of the same from the officers of the law.
The trial was commenced about noon, when a jury was empannelled and the bill of indictment read. The bill contains three counts :-First, for riot and breach of the peace ; second, for riotous assembling with the intention of producing a breach of the peace, and for the additional purpose of rescuing three fugitives slaves then peaceably and lawfully in the possession of their owners ; and the third for assault and battery.
There is a galaxy of ladies in attendance, and the trial has produced considerable excitement here.
