LONDON, May 19.

Yesterday a little after two o'clock, all the people on the Royal Exchange were suddenly alarmed by the appearing of a Cow at the south gate; and the consternation increased to such a degree, though the beast did not run in upon 'change, that a prodigious hustle and bustle ensued; some lost their hats and wigs, some lost their shoes; others lay upon the ground in heaps of half dozens and half scores, with their limbs bruised, &c.

Whilst this strange hurly burly prevailed upon 'change, the supposed, or made mad cow, turned into 'change alley, and made a furious push at the door of Jonathan's which frighted not a little all the bulls, and the bears too: but they soon recovered, on hearing that it was only a Cow, and that she was turn'd off another way.

During the alarm on the Exchange, a rumour of an Earthquake prevailed, and many threw themselves flat on the ground, expecting to be swallowed up, and not knowing where to run for safety.
