C. O. Gerrish of Saco Takes His Troubles Into Court,
Saco, September 14.-Charles O. Gerrish of this city has brought suit in the sum of $5000 each against his brother and son, Dr. Frederick H. Gerrish and Will C. Gerrish, both of Portland, on a charge of defamation of character. The suit is based on their recent attempt to have him committed to the insane hospital, they alleging that he was demented and abusive of his wife. The suits will be tried at the September term of the York county supreme court.
Mrs. Gerrish, who was ill at the time of the proceedings against her husband, was removed from her home a few days after the dropping of the complaint against her husband and was taken to Portland, where she has ever since been with her little daughter, at first staying at Dr. Gerrish's house, and afterwards boarding somewhere in the suburbs of Portland.
The feature of the case is the charge which Mr. Gerrish brings against his brother, the doctor, who, he says, has hypnotized his wife and by this means alienated her affections. Mayor Bradbury of Saco is counsel for the plaintiff.
