INTREPIDITY.—On Wednesday last, while a number of boys were skating on the Hudson, opposite Cold Spring, one of them, a son of Mr. Henry Whaley, fell into a hole about twenty feet square. Some of the boys ran to the shore, distant about eighty rods, to procure a plank; those that remained seeing that the boy could not support himself until their return, boldly resolved to risk their own lives in order to save his. The following plan was adopted: the largest boy laying down, crawled towards the edge of the hole, the next largest holding him by the feet, and the third holding him by the feet. In this manner they proceeded, the ice bending under them fearfully, but they rescued their comrade, and evinced a self devotion and fearlessness of danger seldom met with among their seniors. Their names are Wm. Conk, Sam'l J. Ferris and John M'Keet.—N. Y. Standard.
