FURNACE EXPLODES; BUILDING WRECKED

Failure of a safety valve to work an overheated furnace, was responsible for wrecking a residence at Platteville Saturday.

Carpenters had just finished re-modeling and redecorating the German Methodist parsonage on Broadway in the metropolis and were trying out the furnace. Failure of the valve to work caused a terrific explosion, completely wrecking the building.

The pastor, Mr. Zarwell, resigned a short time ago and moved to California, consequently the house was vacant thereby averting a loss of life. Neighbors hearing the explosion turned in fire alarm, but no fire resulted.
