Full Text

The hurricane at Tunis, of which we lately published an account, surpasses every thing of the kind ever experienced in that region. It sank every merchantman in the harbor, and destroyed the whole squadron of ships of war about to sail—among the rest, three frigates. The sailors drowned are estimated at 2400. The lightning and thunder were incessant, and the hail and rain so impetuous that nothing could withstand its force. At Messina, many vessels were wrecked, and the wharves damaged. At Malta, two ships were sunk, a third went to pieces, one of the forts was almost entirely destroyed, and the quays all injured.
