WELL PAID.—Charles G. Atherton, by his election to the U. S. Senate, by the Locofocos of the New Hampshire Legislature, is well paid for his dough-faced subserviency to the wishes of the slave dealers, so strikingly exhibited by the presentation and advocacy of his famous gag-resolutions. It is a fact frequently asserted, that those who do service for the slave holders in Congress, receive their reward. Atherton received their plaudits when he presented his resolutions, and now takes his full reward, in the shape of a six years Senatorial berth by the hands of the Legislature of New Hampshire. Why should not the abolitionists aid the Locofocos to keep the Whigs out of Congress and office, when by so doing they fill Congress and public offices by such men as Atherton? The action of political abolition has invariably resulted thus—it has sent and is sending a majority of members of Congress to Washington to vote for gags and slavery, in the place of Whigs who invariably voted for liberty so far as the Constitution would allow them to do so. No man, we believe, can deny this.
