PADDOCK'S LAKE
County Schools Hold Graduation Exercises and Celebrate Flag Day at Old Settlers' Grounds.
JOHN W. PUELICHER SPEAKS
Paddocks Lake was the mecca for school boys and school girls from all over Kenosha county today for the annual graduation exercises of the county schools were held at the pavilion at the lake today and the all day celebration drew hundreds of people interested in the 'Little Red School House."
It was the right kind of a celebration of flag day and most of the children came bringing Old Glory in some shape or another. The little girls had flag sashes and the bigger boys carried flags and Paddocks Lake grounds were a mass of color.
It was as much of a patriotic festival as it was a graduation exercise and things patriotic were very much in order during the day.
The morning hours were given over to the children of the schools. The day came as the finale of the most successful year in the history of the schools of Kenosha county and large classes came to receive diplomas from nearly every one of the school districts in the county.
County Superintendent R. L. Cundy of Salem was in charge of the program for the day. The morning program at the pavilion was a series of interesting little recitations and songs and essays given by the children. At the close of the program the diplomas of merit were conferred by Mr. Cundy.
At noon there was a great basket dinner and the program this afternoon was planned as a big impetus for the sale of the War Savings Stamps in the county.
John H. Puelicher of Milwaukee who is at the head of the sale of the stamps in this state was the principal speaker and the other speakers included Charles C. Brown, President of the First National Bank and G. A. Mittlestaedt of the Kenosha Four-Minute Men. The address of Mr. Mittlestaedt was decidedly timely as he is a member of the quota of Kenosha men who leave tomorrow for army service. He was to have reported at two o'clock this afternoon but the board gave him permission to go right along and make his last talk at the Flag Day Celebration out at Paddock's Lake.
It was planned to close the afternoon with an informal picnic.
