Have Birthday

The Rotary Club of Kodiak
today celebrated the 41st anniversary
of the founding of the
international Rotary organization.
On Feb. 23, 1905, the first
such club in the world was organized
in Chicago by Paul P.
Harris, a young lawyer.
Today there are Rotary clubs
in 66 different regions and countries
throughout the world. During
the last 6 months 209 new
clubs have been organized, making
a total of 5641 with 260,000
members.
Dr. A. Holmes Johnson, president
of the local club, said that
Paul Harris, the founder, who
will be 78 years old in April, is
still active in the Rotary organization.
In an anniversary message Mr.
Harris said: "My 41 years of experience
in promoting understanding
and good will on an international
scale give me the courage to insist
that the plan of the United Nations
is not an idle dream-that it is
practical, and given half a chance,
it will succeed."
President Johnson said the local
club was organized in Sept. 8,
1942 and now has 34 members.
The first president was R. H.
Chadwick.
