Some people make a good living acting like zanies. Many of them make this crazy living in night clubs like La Conga, in New York City, where folks come to rhumba and watch cut-ups like Jay and Lou Seiler. The Seilers' claim to fame is the fact that they do a whacky dance on a pair of parabolic skis six feet in diameter.

Galumphing and rocking around on these insane, half-circle contraptions has brought the Seilers to ice shows like Sonja Henie's, jobs with movie houses and so forth.

They are two scrawny, hungry-looking boys from Schenectady, N. Y. Jay, 31, took Lou, 25, into partnership with him five years ago. In that time the two have broken numerous bones (Lou had a finger in a splint while he spoke to us), had cuts stitched up and taken bad spills, all for laughs.

Jay has been at this screaming and jumping around business now for nine years; before that, curiously enough, he did reforestation work in Idaho. Lou worked with a sash and door company in Schenectady. So they make their own parabolic skis. They took them to Rio de Janeiro and the town had them stay for 14 weeks. Cuba likes zanyism also.

In their spare time, the boys usually rehearse. Jay rides horseback and so does Lou, but Jay has a secret hobby that is as whacky as his way of making a living--he twists gold-filled wire into jewelry. Also, he designed those nut and bolt cuff links that were popular some years ago. Lou likes to paint, not pictures, but walls, floors and the woodwork.

It all seems a trifle incomprehensible when one reads it, but people do jam into clubs and places to see the Seilers do their idiotic stuff. They even wowed Madison Square Garden when they were with the ice show. They seem indicative of the tense times we live in. It is easy for a nerve-wrecked public to laugh at zanies. It relieves tension. As far as the zany Seilers go, they seemed to be pretty tense.
