According to the opinion of 35 Haskell seniors, the most important thing they should learn at Haskell is how to meet and get along with people. Thirty-four listed that as one of the things a high school graduate should know.
Second, mentioned by 18, is use of good English. Third was a tie (17 each) for courtesy (or good manners) and good conduct. He "should know right from wrong", should "act like an adult."
Fifteen listed the fact that he should have selected a vocation and, if possible, be prepared to make a living. The habit of a neat, attractive appearance and the ability to write an intelligent, legible letter were each named by 10 students.
Managing money wisely, budgeting time to the best advantage and the ability to carry on a good conversation seemed equally important to nine students.
The habit of promptness was listed by eight. Six said a high school graduate should know how to study, how to get a job and should be a good listener. He should be able to take care of himself and solve his own problems, said seven.
Others listed ability to follow instructions; think clearly; speak distinctly and interestingly in public; a knowledge of American history and government; the habit of enjoying good books, magazines and newspapers; ability to adjust to an environment; honesty; dependability; good health habits and knowing how to make the right kind of friends.
Leadership, a knowledge of the fundamentals of science and mathematics, habit of working well, self-discipline, how to take correction, practicing what was learned at school, appreciation of sports, knowledge of world affairs, affiliation with the church of his preference and an adequate vocabulary were also listed.
"He should realize that graduation from high school doesn't mark the end of education." said a veteran; "and he should have acquired a broadminded, humane attitude toward other people."
