Washington June 10 - We have made more military plane production in the six months since Pearl Harbor than in all the previous history of the country. That alone tells the story. The report is made by the Aeronautical Chamber of Commerce with the permission of the War Department.

Engine production has increased nearly 50 per cent. With this has come, by countless improvements in plane models.

In many respects our first six months of war have been unlike any factory. We have suffered serious defeat. We were caught unprepared. Pearl Harbor and we lost many planes in the Philippines in the Southwest Pacific.

We are suffering heavily from Corregidor, Wake Island.

But today war effort is valid. The change from mobilized in industry. Excellent performance. Transportation of men and materials to the fronts the chief difficulty to be overcome.

MUCH OF THIS HAS BEEN POSSIBLE because of the steady application of labor through the building up the military so.. and those responsible for expand re war production, anchored by government officials and industrial executives and engineers. But much has been possible also because of the full hearted support of the people of the country.

Because the people have been fully behind this effort we are not conscious of what difficulties and delays might have been caused by a deeply divided public sentiment. For that we can always be thankful. The unpreparedness which developed overnight but Pearl Harbor day found the nation obstinately reserved critical co fat a Lamrtalpolce.
