FOUR BURGLARS
ARE CAUGHT IN
A POLICE TRAP

Informer Who Helped Bluecoats Attacked by Friends of the Prisoners.

When burglars broke into the jewelry store of S. Tartakowsky, No. 20 Eldridge street, at midnight last night they found the police waiting to receive them.

On Monday night Isaac Kessler, employed by the police, saw one of a gang of men take a watch from the pocket of another man in Seward Park. The gang feared Kessler would inform the police. He represented himself as engaged in the same business, and the thieves told him that they were "going to pull off a job" the next night and invited him to join them.

The four burglars and Kessler arrived at Tartakowsky's about midnight. They broke their jimmies in an effort to get in and finally forced an entrance by breaking down the door. Kessler shoved two who went inside into the arms of policemen. Police on the outside got the other two.

In the Essex Market Police Court to-day the prisoners gave their names and addresses as Barney Meyrouitz, nineteen, of No. 14 Attorney street; Isidore Gritz, nineteen, of No. 7 Rutgers street; Harry Ellis, seventeen, of No. 19 Attorney street, and Jacob Gribin, nineteen, of No. 14 Suffolk street. The last named had only recently been released from the Elmira Reformatory and is now under $500 bail on another charge for not robbery.

Magistrate Barlow held them in $1,000 bail each for the Grand Jury.

As Kessler coming to court he was assaulted at the corner of Eldridge and Stanton streets and struck in the face with a club by a friend of the four. Louis Leder, thirty-nine, known to the police as "Boston Louis" Slyder, was arrested and was held in $1,000 bail.
