NOTES ON GOOD HEALTH

There are a number of things which you can do to develop and protect healthy teeth and gums.

The first step is a proper diet. As a general rule, foods which are good for general health are also good for dental health. That means a well balanced daily menu.

As far as the formation of healthy, sound teeth is concerned, the first eight years of life are most important. During this period-the time when the crowns of the permanent teeth are forming in the lower jaw-- a child needs plenty of proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins with special emphasis on calcium and vitamins A. C. and D.

Regardless of age, however, a good, well-balanced diet is important to dental health. It helps to maintain good jaw bone structure and healthy gums. This may not sound important, but it is. During middle age more teeth are lost because of gum and bone trouble than any other reason. Jaws and gums are quick to show the effects of inadequate diet.
