Unique Railroading
Georgia has a unique railroad train, which is described by the Atlanta Constitution. It runs from Chamblee upon the Air Line road out to Roswell, a distance of only about fifteen miles, but the little train is famous. It consists of one car, which is divided into three compartments, an engine without any of the modern improvements, without even a tender, the wood being piled up in the cab. As soon as everybody gets on the train starts. There is no preliminary bell ringing or warning from the engine, but you are off, bumping and rolling around at the rate of about nine miles an hour, before you know it. At different places along the line, at a road crossing, in the middle of a cotton patch or cornfield, or anywhere a passenger presents himself, the little train will stop.
