Frank Edwards, scheduled to begin a nationwide news broadcast Monday over the Mutual Broadcasting System with American Federation of Labor sponsorship, sees his program as becoming "a direct and dependable pipeline between the working men and women of America and their national capital."
Mr. Edwards, one of the outstanding liberal commentators on the air, set forth his views in a statement:
"It is my intention to put the AFL network radio program to work as a direct and dependable pipeline between the working men and women of America and their national capital.
To give them through this medium a complete and up-to-the-minute report on what is happening and its meaning to them as individuals.
To tell them who is involved and why, for ofttimes the men who make the news are more important than the news itself.
Since the radio is essentially the property of the American public I plan to use the AFL portion of it to work for the vast majority of that same public in every possible fashion. By reporting honestly and fairly on the issues and personalities the program can be a powerful antidote for the vagueness and distortion that sometimes masquerades as factual news.
This will not be an easy task but it is one that has long been needed by the wage earners of America."
Mr. Edwards, who brings to the microphone a versatile radio news background of more than 24 years, will originate his program from Washington. He will be heard at 10:30 P. M., EST over WHK, Cleveland, Monday through Fridays.
