THE ELECTION

So far as we get returns they are full as satisfactory as we had any reason to expect. Judging merely from the complexion of them, it would seem probable that Gov. Lincoln is elected by an increased majority. The entire National Republican Senatorial Ticket in this County is also, undoubtedly chosen.

In this town, the meeting was large beyond precedent, more than 650 voters being on the ground, and considering the size of the meeting, and the excitement of a contested election, it was conducted with a degree of order and decorum, and with a good temper and good feeling, highly creditable to our citizens. The result is most gratifying to our feelings, as it will be to those of all throughout the County, who feel a pride in the character of the "Heart of the Commonwealth"

Our list of Representatives is one which will command respect every where. Five of them were on the National Republican Ticket. Charles Allen, Esq., is of the same political sentiment, but was upon the Anti-Masonic Ticket, and received the votes of a portion of both of the other parties. Otis Corbett, Esq., of the last year's delegation, was unanimously nominated by the National Republican Nominating Committee, but declined serving in consequence of other engagements.

From the Worcester County Republican of Nov. 16,1831.

The following are the votes for Representatives in this town :

Jubal Harrington 308

Thomas Chamberlain 175

Scattering 13

In addition to the above, the Editor of the Republican published the votes on each of the ballots for the five Representatives, but as the object of the publication was to show his own standing in the town, we copy only that portion of the article.

To accommodate him still further, we now give the result of the two first ballots for Representative in this town on Monday last. They were as follows:

First Ballot.

Majority against Harrington 286.

Second Ballot

Majority against Harrington. 332! After this ballot the Jackson party took up a new candidate.
Alfred D. Foster270
Charles Allen157
Jubal Harrington141

Alfred D. Foster304
Charles Allen159
Jubal Harrington131
