Full Text

On Friday last, Harry Henderson, and David Cohen, both free mulattoes, and fishermen by trade, being on a fowling excursion on the palisadoes, near Port-Royal, quarreled with each other; and after abundance of Billingsgate altercation, joined to a little manual exercise, vulgarly called boxing, agreed to fight it out with muskets. In pursuance of this resolution, preliminaries being hastily settled, thirty yards were measured off as a proper distance, when each combatant took his station; and it being agreed to by both, that Cohen should fire first, he levelled his musket, and discharged her without effect. Upon which his antagonist immediately returned the fire, and lodged the contents of his piece in Cohen's body, who staggered back a few paces, then fell, and expired in two or three minutes, without uttering a single word.
