Full Text

Copy of a letter from Bermuda, dated October 10.

"After a tedious and rather disagreeable passage, I arrived here, on the latter end of September (via Carolina). For some days we imagined we had overrun our long. Never was longitude tick more eagerly wished for than at this time. Considerable warlike preparations are going on here for fear of an attack from the Spaniards; a company of light-horse, also is instituted, God knows for what purpose, as you can scarcely gallop half a mile in any direction till you are plump, head and ears over, in the main ocean.

As to the Spaniards (unless the times of Don Quixote are returned) I am inclined to think, in case of a war, they would turn their views to some of the more valuable British possessions in the West-Indies, or rather employ all the force they can spare in securing what they already possess."
