REMEMBER THE ORPHANS.—The ball which is advertised to come off at Moore & Parker's hall, on the evening of November 1st (Thursday next), although being under the auspices of the society of Good Templars, is for no benefit to either Union Lodge of this city or over the Order at large. It is for the exclusive benefit of the Orphans' Home at Vallejo, Cal. This magnificent institution was built by the Order in California and this State, at a very heavy outlay. The Order of Good Templars would, on no account, ask the assistance of the outside world, were it not that the institution is open and free to all. The orphan child of the deceased drunkard is as welcome to the Good Templars Home as the child of the highest officer or humblest member of the Order. It is truly a home for the orphans of the two States. It belongs to the Good Templars and is the crowning honor to that institution. Each Lodge in the jurisdiction is taxed so much per capita on its members annually. And now that additional money is needed of Union Lodge, we trust the citizens of this town and county will turn out and do something for so laudable an enterprise. "Inasmuch as ye did it for the least of these little ones, ye have done it unto me." This is a promise in the above text worthy of note.
