HANGOVERS
By LITTLE HEISKELL

Don't look now, boys, but at least three employees in City Hall are carrying resignations around in their pockets, ready to toss 'em into the Mayor's lap if and when. A few more are flirting with defense jobs and awaiting only the arrival of birth certificates.

It's gettin' so bad at the Wailing Wall that it might be necessary for 'em to advertise political jobs. And if that comes to pass the old adage "Patronage builds political organizations" will be consigned to the garbage can.

An unverified report has it that during the last "big snow" a prominent politician, trapped in his home by drifts and wanting to attend church services, solved the problem very simply by telephoning one of the police cruisers. One of these days when I'm sufficiently important in the community, methinks I'll do my shopping that way.

Rumors still persist that Sheriff Joseph Baker will lock horns with Harry Keedy for the County Treasurer's nomination. G.O.P. Candidate No. 3 may come from the Beaver Creek District, and a couple more are mulling over the idea. All of which may indicate that this juicy job may be added to the Democratic victory list this fall.

John Hartle, of Chewsville, isn't using a brass band, but from many sections of the county come reports that he is plugging along in his unannounced campaign to snatch the Democratic nomination for Sheriff. Farmers, particularly, seem to be carrying the torch for the Chewsville candidate, who has on two previous occasions stepped aside in the interest of party harmony.

This time, Hartle will go the route and it would surprise even you to know the names of some of the leaders who will go down the line for him at the proper time.

Announcement that the city has definitely planned to finish its digging activities on South Potomac street, has thrown a carefully arranged schedule into the waste basket. Residents out that way had planned to use the big ditch as a community Victory Garden, tests having proved that the soil was ideal for this purpose. Several had already ordered lemon trees for immediate planting.

Anyway, Washington County added another "first" to its list this week. Hen Triesler wants to go to Congress. What I would like to know Henry, is where are yuh gonna get enough G.O.P. votes for the trip?
