For Congress.

Hon. Jas. A. Cunningham is announced elsewhere in The Weekly as a candidate for Congress in the First Congressional District. The Booneville Banner, his home paper, has the following to say in announcing his candidacy:

In this issue will be found the announcement of Hon. James A. Cunningham, of Prentiss county, as a candidate for Congress from the First Congressional District of Mississippi.

"While his candidacy was announced only a few days ago, it is already an assured fact that he has behind him practically a unanimity of support from all the business and political factions and the people generally of this section.

"This remarkable following is not based so much upon the idea of home pride as upon the general recognition of his splendid personal traits, his Christian character, his unquestionable ability to do things and his devotion to the best interests of the masses of people.

"We venture the assertion that no citizen of this State, his environments being considered, has succeeded in doing and accomplishing more in life's progress than can be justly credited to Mr. Cunningham.

At the age of 14 years, an illiterate boy, living sixteen miles back in the country, with a family dependent upon him for support, a share-cropper and hired hand, without means of assistance he began his career for better things.
