Full Text

O'er six long months I've strove to gain
The lively Maria's Heart,
But hitherto have strove in vain,
She still eludes my art.
When last night tir'd with long suspense
Urg'd on by passion too,
Begg'd she'd excuse the bold offence,
While I made known my woe.
What wou'd you then? she smiling said.
Does Maria—Ignorance plead,
Thy hand and heart I ask dear maid.
Give! Heav'n shall bless thy meed.
Then from the plate—a cake* she took
Presenting with her hand,
Here take them both with archer look
What more do you demand?
*In form of a Heart.
