Repair Work Will Begin in February
Materials for the replacement of Karluk River on Kodiak Island are en route from Seattle and work will begin early next month, Public Works Commissioner Richard A. Downing said last week.
Supplies for the 300-foot suspension bridge were to have left Seattle last week aboard the S. S. Tatalina for arrival at Kodiak January 27. From Kodiak, the materials will be taken by power boat to the mouth of the river and be transferred to another craft for the half-mile trip upstream to the bridge site.
Downing said the bridge, equipped with a special design feature to eliminate side-sway, is expected to be in place by March 30. Cost of the work is estimated at
