BRITISH WEST-INDIES.
BARBADOES, AUG. 12.
Sir R. Strachan's squadron, sailed from Carlisle Bay this day. They have been constantly employed, since their arrival, in receiving stores and provisions, and gave an unexampled instance in watering, having completed 111 tons in 72 hours, at Martindale's old established tanks. The Ad. seemed particularly anxious for the ships to weigh, and visited each to hasten them ; it was imagined that he had received some intelligence which occasioned the bustle that has prevailed all the morning. This however, is all conjecture, although some accounts have been received in town through other channels, that Almavaz's squadron, which we lately stated was expected at Martinique, is momently looked for there, advices having been received by Villaret of their having left Toulon on the 20th June, for the purpose of forming a junction with Gillonmez off the coast of America. as they insinuate, (no doubt as a stratagem to mislead our cruisers,) altho there is much reason to believe, that not only Almavaz is expected at Martinique, but the return of Gillonmez also; it being understood here, that moorings have been laid down in Fort Royal bay for a large fleet, and a general requisition of bread laid on the bakers, and considerable depots of provisions formed for them.

Event Details
Sir R. Strachan's squadron sailed from Carlisle Bay on August 12 after receiving stores, provisions, and watering 111 tons in 72 hours at Martindale's tanks. The Admiral hastened departure amid bustle, possibly due to intelligence. Accounts indicate Almavaz's squadron left Toulon on June 20, expected at Martinique to join Gillonmez off America, though suspected as stratagem. Moorings and provisions prepared in Fort Royal bay for large fleet including Gillonmez's return.
