George L. Allen named to head county's MOD
George L. Allen of Pascagoula was named today to head the 1963 Jackson County March of Dimes Campaign.
His appointment as director of the campaign was announced in Jackson by A. A. Price, state representative of the national March of Dimes Foundation.
Allen, an employee of Ingalls, said a future meeting will be held in Pascagoula to appoint a committee to help with the drive.
Working with Allen will be Pascagoula attorney John Gauthier, chairman of the county March of Dimes.
This year's campaign will be kicked-off Friday, marking the 25th anniversary of the March of Dimes, founded in 1938 by the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Allen said theme of the 1963 drive will be "Give for the life of a Child," which "sums up the purpose and promise of our campaign this year," he said.
"Our dimes and dollars will go a long, long way to help mend the crippled bodies of millions of American children."
Last year, Allen said, more than 250,000 babies were born in the United States with significant birth defects.
At the same time, he said, there are more than 50 March

Final phase of the drive will be the Mothers March set for Jan. 31.
