THE MINE STILL BURNING.

The Fire in the Calumet & Hecla Mine Not Yet Extinguished.

A Hancock, Mich., dispatch of the 13th says: The fire in the Calumet & Hecla changed for the worse yesterday. Miners reached the No. 3 or burning shaft at the sixth level, the place where the fire is supposed to have started. They found an immense amount of timber burned out and the fire is thought to be burning above and below. A shaft in the mine has drawn the flames toward No. 2 shaft, and to-day there was surface evidence of fire in this shaft. A six-inch vertical hole is being bored toward No. 2 shaft and will strike it between the first and second levels, being sunk to the ninth level of No. 3 shaft. A force is at work in the mine putting in gates which will shut off No. 3 shaft from the north part of the mine.
