REPORTED MASSACRE ON THE PLAINS.—Yesterday, we published an extract from the Morning Call, giving a brief account of a reported massacre of emigrants near Rock Creek on the plains, by the Mormons. It was also stated that the Mormons had been captured by U. S. troops and hanged. From the account of the affair as published in the Herald, we are induced to believe that the whole is an exaggerated story of the Sheppard massacre, which occurred some two or three months since. The man who reported the massacre to the San Francisco papers could not recollect the dates of the occurrences he related. The story related by an emigrant to the Express, a few days since, of a horrible outrage committed on the plains, was but another version of the Sheppard massacre.
