Explosion of Twenty-Five Pounds of Dynamite Used in Blasting on the Clearwater Railroad.
Old Forge, N. Y., Dec. 22.-Bert Scrafford of West Berne, Albany county, and Charles Clifford, a woodsman, were killed this afternoon by an explosion of dynamite at Clearwater, where they were at work with others on the construction of the Clearwater Railroad.
They were warming dynamite by an open fire for use in blasting the frozen ground and throwing out stumps. Suddenly there was an explosion, and then the air was filled with flying earth and parts of the bodies of Scrafford and Clifford.
A spark had floated upon one of the dynamite sticks, and twenty-five pounds of the explosive had been touched off at once. Other workmen near by were thrown down by the force of the explosion, but none was injured.
