KETCHIKAN GETS MAIL BUT
ONCE EACH WEEK NOW

Rate reductions and curtailment of service, which has resulted in coastwise ships calling in Ketchikan only once a week with mail, passengers and freight, has left Ketchikan business men uncertain as to what attitude they should take. Discussion of the matter at the Chamber of Commerce ended in a decision to await further developments.

Weekly service of the Alaska and Pacific Steamship Companies has been discontinued and ships of the two companies now arrive from Seattle on alternate Thursdays. This not only reduces their separate services but brings their ships here on the same day the Northland Transportation Company and Canadian Pacific vessels arrive.

The Canadian Pacific, Alaska and Pacific Steamship Companies also have reduced their winter round-trip rates from Seattle from $54 to a minimum of $48. The Northland Company's rate is $50.

Passengers are carried by all four lines and mail by all except the Northland Company, whose tentative contract was withdrawn when the Pacific and Alaska Steamship Lines announced their new schedule.

Freight is carried by all except the Canadian Pacific.
