Some Warriors of the Five Nations, returning from against the Southern Indians, passed by Shamokin a few Days before and informed locals that as they came up the River Ohio they found the Shawnee Nation entrenching and fortifying themselves under fear of the Five Nations. Twelve miles higher, they met 400 Warriors of those Nations going towards the Shawnee with a resolution to destroy them, believing the Shawnee intended to revolt to the Catawbas.
