HARRODSBURG, JULY 9.
The president arrived here on Wednesday last, just after we had dined, and though there was a committee of arrangements appointed at Harrodsburg, yet as they were informed that it was his wish to pass through this town entirely as a private citizen, they suffered him to do so. Yesterday, however, a deputation waited on him and invited him to partake of a public dinner, which he begged to decline, as he had come here entirely on account of his health, and was advised by his physician to be quiet for a few days. Indeed he appears to be glad to get a little rest, for he is almost all his time in his room, where however he has, almost continually, crowds of visitors. It is said that the water has been of much service to him, that he will leave this on Monday morning, dine at Danville on that day, with Governor Shelby on Tuesday next, and then proceed by the nearest route (via Bean's Station and Abington) to Washington City. Gen. Jackson and suite arrived here on Tuesday, and left this for Nashville on Thursday morning early.
