It is with the greatest Pleasure that we can now inform our Readers of the Reduction of Montreal, and the whole Country of CANADA, to the victorious Arms of His Britannic Majesty.

The only Account we have as yet received of this important Acquisition, is as follows,

Yesterday in the Afternoon, with Dispatches to his Excellency from the Isle of Noix and Crown Point, by the Way of No. Four, we have the most joyful News of the Surrender of the City of MONTREAL to the British Arms, on the 8th of September Instant, in the Evening, and therewith the Surrender of all CANADA. The Inhabitants of the City Prisoners of War, to be sent to France: The Peasants to remain on their Lands as Neutrals, not to Trade with the Indians on Pain of Death. This Account being sent in haste by the commanding Officer at the Isle of Noix, the next Day after Montreal surrendered, is all that we can as yet learn. It was wrote to a Gentleman at Crown Point, who received it on the 12th and immediately sent it hither by Express. A more particular Account of this glorious Conquest is every Moment expected.

Friday Morning last an Express arrived here from Albany; and confirms the above in every Particular.

On receiving the above Intelligence the Guns at the Batteries in the Town were fired: And Cheerfulness appeared in the Countenances of every one.

To allude to the Beginning of the celebrated Mr. Addison's CATO, "The great, th' important Day is now come": A Day big, not indeed with the Fate of Rome, or British America, but made forever illustrious by the British Arms, and signal by the Fall of the American Carthage. The Reduction of CANADA is no longer problematical; but a certain Fact! And our Enemies, who, a few Years since, threatened to "drive us all into the Sea," are now, many of them, to be transported beyond it themselves, to the Land of Slavery; their Mother Country: While the rest, as we reasonably Suppose, are to become the Subjects of Great Britain. So graciously, and with such an outstretched Arm, has Heaven appeared for us. Hail then, the happy Day! And thanks to Him, who has thus subdued our cruel, proud and insulting Enemies under us!

The Surrender of Montreal was on the same Day of the Month, which General Johnson with the Provincials, defeated the French Army under General Dieskau, when that General was taken Prisoner.
