LABOR DAY FIREWORKS DETECTIVE FLORENCE AT LANSDOWNE PARK RECOVERS STOLEN AUTO
PLAIN CLOTHES MAN RECENTLY REDUCED FROM RANK OF CHIEF BY CARSON COMMISSIONERS, WILL PARTICIPATE IN SUBSTANTIAL REWARD
The second day after Frank Florence, ex-Chief of Detectives, had reported for work as a plainclothes man he located a $2500 automobile which had been stolen from in front of 620 Washington avenue, St. Louis, on the morning of June 26.
In connection with the capture of the large automobile the man who had it in his possession was taken and is now being held at the police headquarters in St. Louis. For locating the auto and assisting in making the arrest Florence will receive a portion of the $100 reward which was offered by the American Insurance Company for the recovery of the car.
The machine, a 1913 model, 32-horse power Dorris, was located in an East St. Louis garage. When found the machine was in the back of the garage and was covered with a tarpaulin. The man under arrest in St. Louis claims that he bought the machine from two strangers.
Detective Florence was recently reduced from the rank of Chief of Detectives to a plainclothes man by the Carson Fire and Police Board. He is considered as one of the best detectives in the service by the members of the police department.
