My Grandmother's Pan
BY MILEY JOHNSON.

She loved it, she loved it.
It was her delight:
With its bottom and sides
All polished so bright;
And through winter and summer
It still was her plan
To have her bed warmed
With that old warming pan.

And oft would her eyes,
With affection fall
Upon that dear relic
That hung on the wall:
Only once she missed it—
'Twas not in its place,
And tears trickled down
Her time-furrowed face;

Some servant had moved it:
But when it was found,
My grandmother's cot
With peace did abound.
No image of beauty
Could to her impart
Such joys as that pan,
The pride of her heart.

My grandmother
She sank sweetly to rest,
And the sods of the valley
Now cover her breast;
And for her sake,
Shall in my heart cherish
That precious old relic,
Nor e'er let it perish;

Though I then was a boy,
And now am a man,
Yet shall I keep bright
My grandmother's pan.
