Recent accounts from the North of Europe appear to be favourable to American commerce.
A letter from Mr. Williams, London, dated 6th July.
"This moment I get advice from Mr. Jos. Pitcairn, dated 15th June, of which I give you the substance. Three vessels had arrived with coffee and sugar at Tonningen, and were freely admitted by the Danish government; which gave the most positive assurances that they would continue to protect and receive them. Mr. P. recommends the Danish port of Kiel for those who are bound to Riga; the distance from it to Hamburg is small, with regular waggons, and the harbour good. He adds that there is no law of Denmark against vessels which have been boarded, or touched at England, though it would be so much the better if neither happened; but the ship's papers must clearly show that the whole cargo was shipped in the United States."
Mr. Pitcairn has written to several captains and supercargoes at Gottenburg, recommending the port of Kiel from its vicinity to Hamburg, where tens, mankeens and sugars, will produce higher prices than further up the Baltic.
We understand that accounts are also favourable in the South; that cargoes are sold at Sardinia, hence had a channel to the continent, at a good price.
