ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.—At three o'clock last Friday morning, an attempt at burglary was made upon the house of Chas. H. Reed, corner West and New streets. The occupants of an upper room, D. Ives Bushnell and Arthur Reed, were awakened by the barking of their dog, and upon looking up were somewhat astonished to find their window open, and a man about ready to spring into the room. Seeing he was discovered, the stranger shut down the window, and made his escape. A ladder was found leaning against the porch under the window, which had been taken from one of our painters. It is the impression that the fellow had two ladders, one reaching to the roof of the porch, and the other from there to the window. From appearances it is believed he jumped from the roof, taking the upper ladder with him. On the succeeding night two men with dark lanterns were seen prowling about the place.
