Connecticut Veterans to Return the Flag of the Fourth Mississippi.
Lieut. Col. Healy and other veterans of the 9th Connecticut volunteers have planned a presentation affair to occur at New Orleans during February, which may establish a graceful precedent for other fraternal meetings of veterans of the opposing armies. During the war the 9th captured the flag of the 4th Mississippi at Pass Christian, Miss., and it was brought to Hartford and placed in the State armory with four similar trophies taken by other regiments. Capt. Wright of the 9th, who has for years resided in New Orleans, was instrumental in bringing the officers of his regiment into communication with those of the Mississippi regiment, and the result was an offer from the 9th to restore the flag to those who fought under it. The Legislature to-day unanimously passed resolutions transferring the flag to Lieut. Col. Healy and others, who will meet a committee of the confederate regiment at New Orleans. The flag is of white silk, with blue field bearing a single embroidered star, and is badly dilapidated by time. It is proposed to restore it as nearly as practicable to its original condition by inserting new material.
