Slavery in the British East Indies.—Great Britain seems to be making progress in the work of abolishing slavery in her East India possessions. Orders have been issued for the abolition of slavery in Penang, Malacca, Singapore and the Province of Wellesly. A similar movement has been made by the East India Company's Government.

The number of slaves thus emancipated by these two processes, is stated by a correspondent of the Journal of Commerce, at twelve millions. The number of slaves in North and South America, and the West Indies, is estimated at about six millions.—Vt. Chronicle.
