Full Text

A Vincennes paper contains a brief statement of facts, respecting the recent discovery of John Tanner, who, at the age of 9 years, (in 1790) while picking nuts, on the Ohio, near his father's residence, was carried off by the Indians. In 1795, and again in 1798 and three following years one of his brothers travelled in search of him thro' all the Indian nations, and supposed him to be dead. Last year, from information received thro' Lord Selkirk, this indefatigable brother proceeded again in search, and on the 17th of last month, found him near Detroit.

He had been into Ohio in search of his relations but was returning unsuccessful to his family amongst the Chippewa Indians. They were introduced to each other thro' an interpreter, after separation, and the account says, altho' the 28 year cannot converse, "they look upon, and each other with the most fraternal affection."

Tanner (who has taken the savage ferocity about him) is going to reside this winter with his brother and in the Spring his brother will accompany him for his family, consisting of a wife and seven children! He is clean in his person, manly in his appearance and temperate in his habits. He speaks most of the languages of the Northern Tribes.
