Negro Killed by Switch Engine
Ruben Welsh, 70, Negro, of El Centro was killed late Monday when struck by a switch engine at the Orange street crossing in El Centro.
Officers said Welsh was walking along in the rain talking to a friend as they reached the railroad crossing. Suddenly Welsh turned toward the crossing and stepped in front of the engine, officers said.
The mangled body of the aged Negro was lying between the rails when the engine was stopped.
Funeral arrangements were pending Tuesday.
