The emancipation movement is gaining strength in Missouri. The nominations made by the American party at St. Louis, of some of the most substantial and worthy men in the city, for various posts of honor, were all declined by the nominees because they were disinclined to run against the free labor party. A friend, long resident in the State and well acquainted with the popular feeling and who is himself a pro slavery man, writes that it will be difficult, in a short time, to resist the free soil party.
